·         Birth recorded in Newport Area Families 1864-1880 LDS transcriptions.  Catherine McLoughlin present at birth.

Immigration & Naturalization

·         First came to the USA around 1906. 

·         On the S.S. Celtic sailing out of Liverpool arriving in New York on 11/13/1922, Mary O’Donnell is traveling with her cousin Elizabeth McLaughlin.  Mary is 36, single, has been in the USA from 1910/1922, and is employed as a housekeeper by Mrs. James. Grace of 10618 Magnolia Drive, Cleveland.  Mary is 5’4”, dark complexion with brown hair and blue eyes.  She was born in Newport, Ireland and lists her latest residence as Cleveland, Ohio.  Her nearest living relative is her father, Patrick O’Donnell of Sandhill, Newport, Co. Mayo Ireland.

Census Records

·         In the 1901 Burrishoole census, Mary is living with her parents and 9 siblings in house #1 in Sandhill. Mary is 18 (b: ~ 1883) and is employed as a cashier.

·         1910 Cuyahoga County census has Mary O’Donnell, 24 years old (born ~1886) working as a servant for James T. Grace and his family in East Cleveland, Ohio.

·         Confirmed that this was Mary in 1910.  Mary O’Donnell is still working as a housekeeper for James T. Grace and his family (wife Carolyn and older children Frank and Helen) at 10618 Magnolia Blvd. in Cleveland.  James is a 60 year old broker.  This is the same address that Mary used in her 1922 immigration records.  Mary is 34 years old (b~ 1886), was born in Ireland as were here parents, and is an alien resident.  Cannot read her immigration date looks like 1906)

·         In the 1930 census, Mary is still living with the Grace family at 10618 Magnolia Drive.  Mary is now 50 years (b: ~ 1880), a housekeeper, immigrated in 1906, and has not been naturalized.
